Meet Kevin

“I was treating church like spiritual TED talks.”

Meet Kevin from Collective Church in Los Angeles.

Kevin was raised in a Christian home but admits it meant little to him growing up. In college, his faith became a bigger part of his life and he knew he wanted to join a local church. This led to a time of seeking, where Kevin describes, “I was sort of church shopping. Church smorgasbord-ing. I’d go here and there, where I felt God. I’d want a good buzzy high.” The more Kevin reflected on his behavior, he felt God challenging him to see church not just as what he gets out of it, but what he might put into it.

Joining Collective has totally changed Kevin’s perspective on what a church is. Where once he had seen it as an activity for a couple of hours on Sunday, now Kevin sees church as, “a body of people, a group, a community that lives together and seeks to disciple one another and grow in Christ together. Honestly, I’ll never look at church the same way again.” Collective emphasizes that the church is not a place where, but a people who. Because LA is such a sprawling city, it can be hard to find community. Kevin appreciates that Collective has really focused on inviting people.

People in cities like New York, Los Angeles, Miami, and Cape Town are finding and growing closer to God through churches started by Orchard Group. As city populations surge, let’s make sure that churches are growing where people are going! #PeopleMatterToGod
